Veeam Backup & Replication v5 out today

VMworld 2010Veeam Backup and Replication version 5 has been released today and has been very much anticipated due to a number of new features. At VMworld 2010 Veeam was awarded Best of Show and Best New Technology because it addresses addresses “major problems that virtualization administrators have”. Their new product version has 5 patents pending providing their vPower technology.

Instant VM Recovery is a technology that provides the ability to restore an entire virtual machine from a backup in minutes.

Universal Application Item Recovery (U-AIR) “enables quick recovery of individual objects from any virtualized application, on any OS”

SureBackup Recovery Verification is a backup verification feature that verifies every backup for every virtual machine.

On-Demand Sandbox allows you to test virtual machines from a backup at a point in time.

Instant File-Level Recovery from ANY file system allows you to recover an entire virtual machine or individual file from backup.

This new version also provides better performance over WAN connections due to better deduplication ratios and reduced incremental backup sizes. This is a feature I would be particularly interested to see working as I haven’t been convinced of the WAN replication in previous versions.
