Effective from May 25th 2018
Updated on May 27th 2018 to include Akismet anti-spam service (See 3a) and consolidate contact form and comments section.
1. Personal Statement (by Ray Heffer)
Personal Data is collected for the following purposes and using the following services:
Wordpress Stats and Google Analytics
Personal Data: Cookies and Usage Data
Comment system managed by JetPack
Personal Data: First name, Last name, IP address and website (optional)
Anti-spam service by Akismet (Automattic)
3. What information is collected about you
a) Contact Form
The commenter (“you”) name, email address, and site URL (if provided via the comment form), timestamp, and IP address. Additionally, a jetpack.wordpress.com IFrame receives the following data: WordPress.com blog ID attached to the site, ID of the post on which the comment is being submitted, commenters local user ID (if available), commenters local username (if available), commenters site URL (if available), MD5 hash of the commenters email address (if available), and the comment content.
The contact form submission data — IP address, name, email address, website (optional), and message — is submitted to the owner of this website (“I”, Ray Heffer) and Akismet for the purposes of anti-spam. This email will include the submitter IP address, timestamp, name, email address, website (if provided), and message content.
b) Google Analytics
c) Security and Access
In order to check login activity and potentially block fraudulent attempts, the following information is used: attempting user’s IP address, attempting user’s email address/username (i.e. according to the value they were attempting to use during the login process), and all IP-related HTTP headers attached to the attempting user.
Activity Tracked: Failed login attempts, which contain the user’s IP address, attempted username or email address, and user agent information.
When sharing content using the buttons available on this site (LinkedIn, Twitter, Google, or Reddit) the following information is used: sharing party’s name and email address (if the user is logged in, this information will be pulled directly from their account), IP address (for spam checking), user agent (for spam checking), and email body/content. This content will be sent to Akismet (also owned by Automattic) so that a spam check can be performed.
e) WordPress.com Stats
Data collected for website usage statistics include: IP address, WordPress.com user ID (if logged in), WordPress.com username (if logged in), user agent, visiting URL, referring URL, timestamp of event, browser language, country code. Important: “I” the site owner does not have access to any of this information via this feature. For example, a site owner can see that a specific post has 285 views, “I” cannot see which specific users/accounts viewed that post. Stats logs — containing visitor IP addresses and WordPress.com usernames (if available) — are retained by Automattic (https://automattic.com) for 28 days and are used for the sole purpose of powering this feature.
What is a cookie?
Do Not Track (DNT) is a feature in some web browsers that asks advertisers and other web software providers not to track user browsing habits. Using the WordPress plug-in WP-DoNotTrack (https://wordpress.org/plugins/wp-donottrack/#faq) this site honors any visitors with DNT enabled and will not track their activity (i.e. post and page views)
