The screen is probably the most important part of any car computer system (carputer) as this will have to incorporate a touch screen for ease of control whilst driving, so the position is very important. When I first started thinking about a carputer a few years ago there was not much in the way of touch screens that would fit nicely in a car. Unless I put a 15" TFT in the car, it was not going to happen and even then it would have meant me using a keyboard and mouse.
Now Liliput have created a 7" TFT touch screen that fits nicely into all cars and comes with all the bits you need to get started, including a bracket if you wish to mount the screen on your dashboard. In my case, I decided not to use the bracket as I wanted the screen to look 'factory fitted', so I ripped out the clock and accessory tray (see before photo below) from the center console and used the double-din space to fit the screen.

Step by step guide to fitting the Liliput TFT touch screen into my Honda Accord Type-R

Dismantling the Liliput screen. |
Make sure you don't loose any screws! |
I cut a hole in the original panel just big enough to hot glue the front TFT panel in place. |

|
|
Using a hot melt glue gun, this is nicely fixed from both the front and back.
|
Use car body repair filler (easy sand) to smooth in the panel. |
I used primer to find any imperfections. |

Another layer of filler, and plenty of sanding! |
One I had it as smooth as possible, I used filler primer then sanded it some more.
|
After 2 days of sanding, and filler primer it was time for the matt black paint. |

This is the first coat, and you have to allow plenty of drying time for each coat even if it's dry to touch. |
Finally it's fitted inside the car. Perfect! |
